Cactus Jack and Jumpman are back

Travis Scott x Air Jordan 6

The highly anticipated Air Jordan 6 Retro ‘Cactus Jack’ finally dropped last week. After months of waiting, sneakerheads were rewarded on October 11th with multiple in-store raffles for the shoes from retailers including Bodega and Kith, as well as online drawings from the Nike SNKRS app and a surprise drop on travisscott.com. The olive green shoe features orange accents, a black midsole and tongue, and white glow-in-the-dark sections on the sole. The back of the right shoe has the Cactus Jack logo embroidered in orange, and the left displays the Nike Air logo. On the tongue, peeling back the flap with the Jumpman logo reveals the Cactus Jack logo as well. However, the most eye-catching part of the sneaker is the button-down pocket on the outside each shoe. These miniature canvas pouches are positioned near the neck of the shoe and have the cactus jack face logo on the inside of each flap. I’m not entirely sure what one would put in these tiny pockets but I can only assume they will be used for no good. Extra yellow and black laces are included with the sneakers in addition.

These Retro 6s released in men’s, grade school, preschool, and toddler sizing, with retail prices ranging from $60-$250. On the morning of the drop, I logged into my two SNKRS accounts on both my phone and laptop and entered the drawing for a men’s size 10 and a grade school size 5. I even had my dad enter for the same sizes with his account to maximize our chances. After waiting for around an hour, the notification that I did not get the size 5s popped up first, followed by one for 10s. My dad, however, did not receive as disappointing of a message as mine, because a “Got ’em” message for the size 10s popped up in his inbox. I listed the shoes on eBay that same night for $990 and ended up accepting the highest bid I received three days later for $980. After fees had been subtracted, the profit was nearly $600.

I usually end up selling the majority of my shoes or streetwear on eBay as opposed to StockX because you can confirm a sale without even being in possession of an item. Resale prices usually remain high before release dates, as well as for a few days after, but decrease drastically when resellers begin to receive their packages. This is often the case for StockX, where sellers can undercut the current lowest ask on a product in order to have their item sell first. When many people try to do this at the same time, it causes a huge drop in price. For this reason, I prefer to sell everything on eBay before packages are shipped out so that I can get a premium price. In some scenarios where there is little interest in a specific item on eBay, I will just accept the highest bid on StockX or place an ask in order to get it off my hands.
